Short Description of Instrument
BASC-3 is a multimethod, multidimensional system used to evaluate the behavior and self-perceptions of children and young adults ages 2 through 25 years and includes the following components:
    • Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS)

    • Teacher Rating Scales (TRS)

    • Parent Rating Scales (PRS)

    • Self-Report of Personality (SRP)

    • Structured Developmental History (SDH)

    • Student Observation System (SOS)

    • Behavior Intervention Guide

    • Behavioral and Emotional Skill Building Guide

    • Flex Monitor

    • Parenting Relationship Questionnaire (PRQ)
Comments/Special Instructions
BASC-3 assesses emotional, behavioral, and social functioning in children and adolescents.
Scoring and Psychometric Properties
Scoring: T-scores calculated for composite and individual subscales based on questions answered in a True/False and Never/Sometimes/Often/Almost Always response format.
 
Psychometric Properties: There is evidence of reliability (internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and interrater reliability) and validity outlines in the manual for all forms.
Rationale/Justification
Strengths:
    • Parent report, teacher report, self-report forms

    • Spanish and English versions available

    • Paper version and online administration, online scoring through Q-Global and hand scoring

    • Broad instrument that collects data about emotion, behavioral, and social functioning.

 
Weaknesses:
    • Does not always line up with DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria.
